Balance Bike Guide

Our innovative range of toddler balance bikes are designed to help young children build balance, coordination and confidence. Our engineers have worked tirelessly to make every Micro balance bike a pleasure to ride. Perfectly proportioned, with a range of features to suit different children’s needs – from interchangeable stabilising rear wheel to adjustable seat and handlebar and puncture free wheels. Ultra lightweight, ultra manoeuvrable – the best start toddlers can have on their journey to riding a ‘grown up’ bike.
The all new 2in1 balance bike is perfect for toddlers and children from aged 2. It features innovative stabilising wheels, unique to Micro Scooters. This enables a slightly larger surface area to learn how to balance before they take the plunge on two wheels.

The balance bike gives toddlers their first taste of riding a bike in the easiest way possible. The rear stabilising wheels are designed to give just enough help to young children to keep them upright. This ensures that toddlers and younger children can learn to ride at their own pace.

Once you and your toddler feel that they are ready, the stabilising wheels can be replaced with a standard wheel (which is included) leaving you with a traditional toddler bike.

The innovation doesn’t stop there. The Micro Balance Bike is also one of the lightest balance bikes on the market, weighing just 2.2kg. This allows for toddlers to easily pick up and manoeuvre the balance bike without becoming easily frustrated.

The balance bike handlebars and seat are both adjustable, allowing the best possible fit which will grow with your child.

Also, the Micro Balance Bike comes with front suspension as standard. The spring suspension not only allows for a smooth ride but also helps to keep the front wheel stable on the ground, this helps to ensure that rough surfaces are less likely to knock your child off balance.

What is the best age for a balance bike?

We think the best time to start your child on a balance bike is two years old. At this age your child will be comfortable on their feet and they’ll be strong enough to manoeuvre the bike on their own. Our range of balance bikes for two year olds weigh just 2.2kg, one of the lightest on the market makes them the ideal first bike for your child.

What is a balance bike?

A balance bike is a great way to teach your child the essentials skills of cycling at a young age. With its small frame designed for young children the balance bike does not have pedals and instead relies on the balance and coordination of the child to ride it. Ultimately, this means that they are great for toddler development, exercise and independence.

Why choose the Micro balance bike?

The Micro Scooters balance bike is very similar to a standard balance bike except that it is specially designed with the younger child in mind. This means that the seat and handlebars are adjustable to ensure the perfect fit as the child grows. It also comes with a rear stabilising wheel which is unique to Micro Scooters to support your child as they learn the skill of balancing.

Is a balance bike right for my child?

In our opinion a balance bike is the perfect introduction to cycling for toddlers. By eliminating the stabilisers means that children can concentrate on the core skills of balance and adopt gross motor control needed without having to grasp foot and leg positioning at the same time. This makes learning to ride lots easier.

Why are balance bikes good?

We love balance bikes because they help children to develop their fine motor skills, coordination and balance. With a balance bike, your toddler is also learning how to ride a bike without having to rely on stabilisers to keep them upright. This makes the transition to a bigger bike much easier.

How high should the seat be on a balance bike?

The height of the seat should allow your toddler to reach the ground comfortably when they’re sitting on the seat. We would recommend adjusting the seat so that your child’s feet are flat on the floor, with a very slight bend in the knee, when sitting on the seat.
