Which scooter for a 3 year old?

Need help choosing the right scooter for your 3 year old? Our guide will talk you through the options to help you find the perfect scooter for your 3 year old.

The scooters to consider for a 3 year old are;

The Mini Micro scooter: Lightweight, intuitive ‘lean and steer’ develops balance & coordination. Ideal for ages 2-5.

The Maxi Micro scooter: Heavier frame than a Mini, adjustable handlebar height. Ideal for ages 5-12.

Mini Micro Scooter

The Mini Micro

+ Ideal for ages 2-5 as the scooter is lightweight making it easy for a child to carry on and off kerbs independently

+ Suitable for children up to 20kgs (3 stone 1 lb) or 110cm high

+ Intuitive ‘lean and steer’ scooting style will develop balance and coordination skills.

+ The stem can be removed from the base for easy storage and transportation

+ Swiss designed and engineered making the Mini Micro a long lasting, durable scooter

+ Given a “Mumsnet Best” award

The Mini Micro is the best scooter for a 3 year old as it is lightweight making it easy for 3 year olds to lift and carry. The ‘lean and steer’ scooting style is intuitive ensuring 3 year olds will learn how to use the scooter quickly and easily – it allows helps to develop fine motor skills.

Because of this we believe the Mini Micro is the best scooter for 3 year olds.

The Maxi Micro

+ Heavier so more difficult for a 3-year-old to manage

+ Intuitive ‘lean and steer’ scooting style will develop balance and coordination skills.

+ Adjustable handlebar height

+ The stem can be removed from the base for easy storage and transportation

+ Swiss designed and engineered, making the Mini Micro a long-lasting, durable scooter

+ Given a “Mumsnet Best” award

The Maxi Micro has a heavier frame than the Mini Micro, making it more difficult for 3-year-olds to manage. The footplate is also wider and longer and is not best suited for 3-year-olds with smaller feet (it means they have less control).

We would not recommend a Maxi Micro scooter for a 3-year-old as it would be too heavy and cumbersome for a smaller child to manage.
