A Norland Nanny puts the Micro Balance Bike Ultra to the test!

Meet Laura, a qualified Norland Nanny with over 10 years of childcare experience, a degree in Early Years Learning and Education and two daughters of her own.

Combining her expert knowledge of child development with real-life parenting experience, Laura knows a thing or two about helping little ones build confidence, balance and independence.

We invited Laura to put our Micro Balance Bike Ultra through its paces. Here's her full review, from both a childcare expert's and a mum's perspective.

Watching my daughter, Juniper, use the balance bike has been a wonderful experience. From the moment she started riding, it was clear how naturally it supports the development of balance and coordination. As she learned to push herself along, steer and eventually glide with confidence, I could see her body awareness and control improving with every ride. One of the biggest benefits has been the development of her gross motor skills. The balance bike encourages Juniper to use her legs, core and upper body together, helping to build strength, coordination and stability. She has become increasingly confident navigating different surfaces and manoeuvring around obstacles, all while having fun outdoors. The bike has also had a positive impact on her confidence and independence. Juniper loves the freedom of moving around on her own, and it has been lovely to see her sense of achievement grow as she masters new skills. Each small success has encouraged her to challenge herself further, helping her build resilience and self-belief.

As a parent, I particularly appreciate how the balance bike encourages physical activity and outdoor play. It has given Juniper another reason to get outside, explore her surroundings and stay active. Whether we’re at the park, on a family walk or simply playing outdoors, the bike has become a favourite part of our routine.

The balance bike is perfectly suited to young children, allowing them to develop at their own pace without the added complexity of pedals. For Juniper, it has provided an enjoyable introduction to riding while helping her develop the fundamental skills needed for future cycling.

Beyond the physical benefits, I have noticed improvements in her concentration, determination and problem-solving abilities. She has learned to assess her surroundings, make decisions and persevere when learning something new. It has been rewarding to watch her confidence grow alongside her skills.

Overall, the balance bike has been a fantastic tool for supporting Juniper’s development. It combines fun, independence and physical activity in a way that feels natural and engaging for young children. I would highly recommend it to any family looking to encourage confidence, coordination and a love of outdoor play from an early age.
