Library scoot

Adventure with Micro: Library Scoot.

A family scoot to your local library is an inspired and a free activity for a Saturday morning.

Simply find out where your nearest public library is and organise a safe scooter route. Then call up your friends and arrange to meet up. Make sure you don’t forget a rucksack, as you’ll need it to carry all the books home.

A library scoot is empowering for young children

Children will feel empowered, getting themselves there under their own steam. They will also relish in the feeling of independence as they select their own books and apply for or use their very own library card. They’ll also love the sense of achievement being responsible to look after the books they have chosen to take away on loan.

Find out about local events

Local papers and council/ community websites often list events going on at your local library. Most offer rhyme time and story sessions for younger children as well as reading challenges to complete during school holidays.

World Book Day

Most schools encourage children to explore books and increase reading time at home, but around the 9th March every year they do this by asking children to dress up for World Book Day. Perhaps think about trying to incorporate your scooter into your costume this year - you'll look 'wheelie' great!

Seek inspiration by completing a scoot to the library. For the more creative, why not decorate your scooter to match your outfit? Alternatively, for extra brownie points why not complete a library scoot ahead of the event. You can use photos and the experience to scrapbook the #scootingadventure as world book day homework. The teacher will be impressed for sure!
